For when you know the material but need more time to show it.
Some adults understand the work but need much more time to read, write, solve problems, or finish an exam. Others have compensated for years, until the work got harder or the clock got tighter. An evaluation can show where your strengths and weak spots are, whether a learning disorder or ADHD is part of it, and document how it affects your work now.
Get in touchWhen it might help
An evaluation may help if you:
- Have ongoing trouble with reading, writing, or math
- Work accurately, but much more slowly than others
- Struggle to finish timed exams
- Have a history of ADHD, dyslexia, or another learning difficulty
- Had accommodations before and need updated documentation
- Suspect a learning disorder but have never been evaluated
- Need documentation for disability services at college or graduate school
- Are applying for accommodations on the GRE, LSAT, MCAT, or a licensing exam
Strong grades don’t rule out a learning disorder or ADHD. Plenty of students get by on ability, extra effort, tutoring, or strategies they’ve built up over years.
What it looks at
Depending on your needs, testing can cover:
- Reasoning and cognitive abilities
- Reading accuracy, speed, and comprehension
- Writing
- Math
- Attention and executive functioning
- Processing speed and working memory
- Learning and memory
- Anything emotional that may be affecting how you perform
How it works
- Planning. We start with your goals, your deadlines, and what your school or testing organization requires. You may be asked for transcripts, past evaluations, test scores, accommodation records, IEP or 504 plans, or treatment records.
- Testing. Tests chosen for your history and the questions you’re asking.
- Report and feedback. A written report that brings together your background, records, and results. When the evidence supports it, it lays out the diagnosis, how it affects you now, and why specific accommodations make sense. We go through it together and talk about next steps.
Good to know
A diagnosis doesn’t guarantee accommodations. Each school, testing organization, or licensing board reviews documentation and decides for itself, and their requirements differ and change over time.
Start early. The evaluation, the report, the application, and the review can each take a while.
