Between reaching out and sitting down.
Starting therapy comes with practical questions about cost, scheduling and privacy. They deserve straight answers before anything else does.
Two ways to be in the room.
Our offices are in Park Slope, at 808 Union Street, and near Grand Central, at 315 Madison Avenue. Which one depends on where your clinician sees people, and some see people at both.
About half of all sessions happen by video, with the same clinicians and the same care. You’ll usually need to be in New York during a session, though some of our clinicians are also licensed in New Jersey and Florida.
Private pay,
on purpose.
Session doesn’t work with insurance directly. It’s a deliberate choice, and it shapes how care works here.
The length fits the work. Sessions can run longer, closer together or further apart, depending on what you’re working through rather than what a plan will reimburse.
No one else signs off. There’s no insurer deciding how many sessions you get or when the work should end. That’s settled between you and your clinician.
Your records stay with us. Nothing about your care goes to an insurance company unless you choose to send it.
The questions that come up first.
How does getting started work?
Most people start with an email or a call. From there, a free 15-minute phone consultation helps figure out which clinician and kind of care fit best.
How long is a session?
Individual sessions are 50 minutes, and longer ones can be arranged when it helps. For couples, we often recommend 80 minutes so both partners have room, though 50 can work too.
What does it cost?
Fees vary by clinician and by service, and you’ll know the cost before you commit to anything. Payment is by credit card or HSA or FSA card, kept securely on file and charged after each session.
How do assessments work?
An assessment usually takes several hours, sometimes spread across a few days. A deposit holds your booking and counts toward half the fee, paid at the start, with the rest due at the feedback session.
Can I use my insurance?
Not directly. We provide superbills you can send to your insurer for out-of-network reimbursement, and filing the claim stays with you.
Do you work with children and teens?
Yes, at any age. A parent or guardian consents to care for anyone under 18. Young children are often seen alongside their parents, and sometimes the work is with parents alone, while teens usually get more room of their own.
How does scheduling work?
By email with our team, not an automated booking system. You’ll usually hear back within 24 hours, except on weekends.
What if I need to cancel?
Cancelling or rescheduling takes at least 24 hours’ notice. With less, the full session fee is owed.
Is what I share kept private?
Yes, with the narrow exceptions the law requires, which your clinician goes over with you at the start. Our Notice of Privacy Practices has the details.
What’s a Good Faith Estimate?
A written estimate of what your care should cost, which you have a right to as a private-pay client and receive when you schedule. If your bill comes in $400 or more above it, you can dispute it. Read your rights under the No Surprises Act.
If it isn’t here, ask.
Write to us with anything we haven’t covered, and a real person will get back to you.
